Reflections on MecaNano Summer School 2025

On 28 July – 1 August 2025, the MecaNano Summer School 2025 took place at University of Kassel, Germany, organized by the COST Action MecaNano.

The programme was set out to bring together young researchers (PhD students as well as postdocs) and experts in the nanomechanical field providing a comprehensive overview from basic principles to current research findings. In addition to providing the young researchers with practical applications for their research projects, the programme fostered open discussion among the participants.

Mahnoor Nafees from DigiCell partner Università degli Studi Roma Tre participated in the summer school and was excited: “Beyond the lectures, the summer school offered valuable opportunities for discussion, networking, and collaboration, making it a rewarding and impactful experience.”

Her colleague Edoardo Rossi took part in the conference as a speaker with a presentation on “Machine learning for nanomechanics”.

Other topics covered micro- and nanomechanical testing, machine learning for materials analysis, and small-scale plasticity and fracture. Mahnoor says: “These insights are highly relevant to the Digicell project, providing both methodological tools and fresh perspectives for our research.”
