HaDEA Spotlights DigiCell Among Digital Twin Projects Advancing Europe's Green and Digital Transition
DigiCell has been featured by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) in a recent spotlight article highlighting EU-funded projects that are advancing Europe's green and digital transition using virtual replicas. The article showcases a selection of projects funded under Horizon Europe and other EU programmes that are applying digital twins across diverse fields, from ocean biodiversity, automotive technologies, and smarter cities to the battery value chain. In the spotlight article, HaDEA recognises digital twin technology as “a key enabler for European climate neutrality, industrial competitiveness and resilient infrastructure”.
DigiCell is recognised for its pioneering work in applying digital twin technology to battery manufacturing and testing. By creating virtual models that simulate battery behaviour under different operating conditions and correlate performance with material properties, DigiCell enables real-time interaction between digital twins and production lines. This approach helps manufacturers optimise processes, reduce material waste and improve battery performance throughout the product life cycle.
The article also highlights several of DigiCell’s key achievements to date, including:
- advancing the international standardisation of a novel battery test, currently exploited by the project and formalised as an International Electrotechnical Commission project proposal; and
- developing battery digital twins that are already being used by industry to optimise manufacturing processes, improve battery performance, lifetime assessment, and more.
These achievements demonstrate DigiCell's contribution to strengthening Europe's battery value chain by making battery production more efficient, reliable and sustainable. By combining advanced modelling, artificial intelligence and digital twin technologies, the project is helping accelerate the development of next-generation batteries while supporting the EU's ambitions for a greener and more competitive and resilient industrial ecosystem.
